Defining a design section

A section is a hierarchy of design pages, usually a subtree, that you treat as a unit to simplify file management. The pages in a section have the same base filename, and you can put them in their own folder and give them their own stationery. Sections can contain sections (subsections).

Creating a section for a design is the concluding step in setting up the design. (If you create subsections of the section, it is during the development of the design.) Creating a section creates a section page--the page at the top of the section hierarchy. During the final setup step, you have the option of adding any number of child pages to the section page. Strictly speaking, you begin development of your design when you specify these pages.

To define a design section:

1 Open the site design window for the design.

2 Display the Design tab of the window, and display the Inspector.

3 Drag a Design Section icon from the Site tab of the Object palette to the Design tab. The icon changes to a section page, identified as such by its boldface label.

4 Click the section page to select it.

5 Do any of the following in the Object tab of the Section Inspector:

  • Provide a design name for the page in the Name text box. This name will appear as the label for the page in the Design tab only if Design Name is selected in the View Controller. Otherwise the label will be its filename or page title. For information, see Controlling the view.
  • Change the default page title from Welcome to Adobe GoLive 5.

  • There is probably no reason to change the default filename index.html. Even if the home page for the site has the same filename, the two index.html files will have different paths because the section will have its own folder.

6 Click the Section tab of the Section Inspector.

7 Do any of the following:

  • Provide a base filename for the child pages you will place in the section (and their descendents in the section). The filenames will be provided automatically. For example, if you are developing a section on hiking, provide the base filename Hiking. The default filenames are untitled.html, untitled1.html, untitled2.htm., and so on. If you provide the filename Hiking, the filenames will be Hiking.html, Hiking1.html, Hiking 2.html, and so on.
  • Specify a target folder for the child pages in the section (and their descendents in the section). It should be a subfolder of the root folder, either an existing one or a new one that will be created for the purpose. When the design is submitted, the pages will be placed in this folder. For example, if you're designing the hiking section of a recreation site, you might specify the new folder Recreation/Hiking as your folder. In this case, the folders Recreation and Hiking will be created upon submission. If you don't specify a target folder, either the root folder or the folder for generated items you have specified in Site preferences will be used.
  • Specify stationery for the pages.

  • 8 If you want to add child pages to the section page at this time, do both of the following:

  • Choose the types of parent and sibling links you will generate between the section page and its children. (For information on these choices, see Adding empty pages and pending links to a hierarchy.)
  • Type the number of child pages to add to the section page in the Count text box.

  • 9 Click Create New Pages.
